Stick It To the Mann!

So this just rolled accross my desk today.

STICK IT TO THE MANN

INAUGURAL SURREY CRITICAL MASS BIKE RIDE!!

MUSTER POINT: SURREY CENTRAL (SFU CAMPUS)

DATE: SATURDAY, MARCH 24TH

CONGREGATE @ 1:30, RIDE @ 2:00

SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE GATEWAY PROJECT

ASSERT THE PRESENCE OF A BIKE COMMUNITY IN SURREY

I like this idea. I like it almost as much as I dislike the idea of trying to build our way out of congestion (when virtually every major transportation expert has told us that building more roads will reduce congestion only breifly, and then bring us back up to an similar or worse level, with essentially double the overall amount of cars on the road). If we want to be serious about addressing climate change and environmental issues overall we need to start planning for a different world. Planning for more tranist and more cycling. The Gateway project is anathema to this.

Anyhow, the idea of holding a Critical Mass style ride over the Port Mann to draw attention to this issue, as well as help build momentum for bike riding in Surrey (and all the 'burbs) is a good one.

Who's in? It'll be a wild ride, that's for sure, but it might just bring some good attention to an issue that needs to stay in the public eye.
